El Jardín Birth and Family Resource Center and MindWarp Films present Birth in Pieces, a locally filmed and produced documentary that focuses on women’s birth experiences in the current context of a high national and state maternal mortality rate. What’s wrong with birth in the USA? Birth in Pieces explores mothers’ individual birth stories within a larger framework of a fragmented maternal healthcare system that doesn’t always place value on a mother’s autonomy or well being. In order to fix these systematic problems, we have to start by listening to women: it is possible to have an empowering birth and healthy start to motherhood, and all mothers and babies deserve that opportunity.
